Additional Basic Qualifications and Additional Qualifications are identified
in regulation. Many are assigned to schedules according
to their professional learning purpose.
The College concluded a review of teachers' qualifications in 2006. As a result,
some of the current AQs have been renamed and some are being phased out.
A member who already has an ABQ/AQ on their certificate will not see any change
to their qualifications. Those who have a qualification on their certificate
will continue to have that qualification listed whether it is available under
that name or not.
Additional qualification courses are offered by providers all
over Ontario. The content is based on guidelines developed
by the College which establish learning expectations, instructional strategies
and forms of assessment. The College itself does not offer courses or programs.
Some qualifications that existed before August 31, 2008 have been renamed
or discontinued or their guidelines have been revised. The College is working
with education partners to develop guidelines for new qualifications, which
will be posted in draft form for your review and comment
as soon as they are available. Guidelines for some existing qualifications
are also being revised.
