- Certification Decision Review Process
If you are denied certification, you can request a review of the decision by the Registration Appeals Committee.
The Registration Appeals Committee is an objective and impartial body made up of Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT) and members of the public.
The fee to request a review of a decision is $99. You can also request a review of any term, condition or limitation (TCL) imposed on your certificate.
There are two options to request a review:
- online
- by mail by downloading and completing a Request for Review form.
Applicants are encouraged to review your decision letter carefully, read the Credential Assessment Guide for Denied Applicants and reach out to Client Services if you require any clarification about the certification decision. If there is information that was not provided (for example, teacher education coursework), please arrange to have relevant documents sent directly to the College from the institution.
Once received, the College will use the new information to conduct a reassessment and notify you of the outcome in writing. If the reassessment changes the outcome of your initial evaluation, we will issue you a revised decision. The deadline to request a review by the Registration Appeals Committee does not change while you are seeking clarification (see details related to timing below).
Please note that once a review begins, all correspondence between you and the College will be handled by the Policy and Governance Unit, a neutral body that supports the Registration Appeals Committee.
Timing
If you were denied certification, you have 60 days from the date of the Registrar’s letter to request a review.
If you are an OCT who has a TCL on your certificate, there is no deadline to request a review of the Registrar’s decision. However, you must submit a request before you are expected to complete the terms and conditions. The Registration Appeals Committee uses its best efforts to make a decision within 120 days of a review being requested.
