The College periodically reviews accredited initial teacher education programs to verify that they continue to meet regulatory requirements.
When institutions intend to add to or modify their accredited programs, they must notify the College’s Accreditation Committee.
There are three types of program changes:
- Administrative: Minor changes that do not affect the character, duration or components of a program (such as a program name change).
- Substantial: Changes to the character, duration or components of a program. The Accreditation Committee determines whether the modified program meets accreditation requirements.
- Program Additions: Adding a new element to an accredited program, such as,
- an area of study
- a language of instruction
- a specific component of teacher preparation described in legislation.
An accreditation panel reviews program changes that would result in a program addition using a process similar to the one used for program accreditation renewals. The Accreditation Committee reviews the panel’s findings to decide whether the program, with the addition, qualifies for accreditation.
