Supporting teaching excellence

The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program awards scholarships that provide financial support to teacher candidates.

The program identifies exemplary role models and pays direct financial assistance to those with a passion for and dedication to the highest ideals of teaching.

Financial awards are made possible through donations. Awards are paid directly to individuals according to the College’s criteria.

College scholarships 

The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program offers three awards:

A. Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship For Excellence In Teacher Education
B. Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship
C. Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship

You can apply for:

A only
B only 
C only
A and B *
A and C *

* While candidates can apply for two scholarships at the same time, the selection committee can only award one scholarship per candidate.

Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship For Excellence In Teacher Education

The Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship is named in honour of the College’s second registrar. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.

Teacher candidates expecting to graduate from an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program during the period of June 30, 2016 – June 30, 2017 are eligible to apply for the 2016-2017 Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship.

Candidates must achieve outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating a high level of preparedness for teacher education.

Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship

The Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate division. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.

Teacher candidates expecting to graduate from an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program during the period of June 30, 2016 – June 30, 2017 are eligible to apply for the 2016-2017 Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship.

Applications are assessed on a recipient’s ability to demonstrate a high level of preparedness for teacher education through examples of community involvement, background and life experiences.

Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship

The Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Intermediate/Senior division. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.

Teacher candidates expecting to graduate from an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program during the period of June 30, 2016 – June 30, 2017 are eligible to apply for the 2016-2017 Intermediate/Senior Scholarship.

Applications are assessed on a recipient’s ability to demonstrate a high level of preparedness for teacher education through examples of community involvement, background and life experiences.
