Scholarships

Supporting teaching excellence

The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program awards scholarships, bursaries and prizes to teachers, or those wishing to become teachers, to help with their education. The program provides scholarships and financial support to individuals in their final year of a teaching education program.

The program identifies exemplary role models and pays direct financial assistance to those with a passion for and dedication to the highest ideals of teaching.

Financial awards are made possible through donations. Awards are paid directly to individuals according to the College’s criteria.

College scholarships

The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program offers three awards:

  1. Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship For Excellence In Teacher Education
  2. Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship
  3. Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship

* While candidates can apply for two scholarships at the same time, the selection committee can only award one scholarship per candidate.

Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship For Excellence In Teacher Education

The Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship is named in honour of the College’s second registrar. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.

Teacher candidates must study at a faculty of education in Ontario to apply for the Atkinson Scholarship. They must be entering their graduating year in a consecutive program or going into their final year in a concurrent program. Candidates must achieve outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating a high level of preparedness for teacher education.

The application period runs from March 1, 2013 to July 19, 2013 at 5 p.m. The award’s recipient is announced in October. Read about our latest inspiring recipient.

Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship

The Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate division. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.

Teacher candidates must study at a faculty of education in Ontario to apply for the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship. They must be proceeding to their graduating year in a consecutive or concurrent program.

Candidates must achieve outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating a high level of preparedness for teacher education. A candidate’s academic achievement will be weighted over their community involvement.

The application period runs from March 1, 2013 to July 19, 2013 at 5 p.m. The award’s recipient is announced in October.

Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship

The Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Intermediate/Senior division. An award of $2,000 is made annually to one student.

Teacher candidates must study at a faculty of education in Ontario to apply for the Intermediate/Senior Scholarship. They must be proceeding to their graduating year in a consecutive or concurrent program.

Candidates must achieve outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating a high level of preparedness for teacher education. A candidate’s academic achievement will be weighted over their community involvement.

The application period runs from March 1, 2013 to July 19, 2013 at 5 p.m. The award’s recipient is announced in October.
