Can I teach in Ontario?

January 18 2016

Each year, hundreds of internationally educated teachers apply to the College for membership.  We’ve launched two new online resources to help these potential applicants better understand the requirements for certification in Ontario and our application process.

The Applicant Eligibility Assessment questionnaire is available online in both English and French. It takes about 30 minutes to complete and is free to use. While the questionnaire doesn`t guarantee certification outcomes or membership with the College, it will help potential applicants learn more about Ontario requirements, professional standards and College membership. As a result, they will be better informed before beginning their application process.

The College also launched two new videos called Applying to the College and Evaluating your Application. The first explains the basic requirements for certification and useful tips for applying to the College. The second video is for teachers who applied to the College but were denied membership. It explains the evaluation process, how credentials are assessed and tips for re-applying.

These tools complement our existing resources for teachers educated outside of Canada, including in-person information sessions at the College. Teachers certified to teach in another Canadian province or territory can learn more about applying to the College as a labour mobility applicant.
