Summary of Council Meeting

June 11, 2026

During it’s June 11 meeting, College Council:

  • Received a quarterly report from the Registrar and CEO, including new tracked data indicators for Q1 2026.
  • Received the Standards of Practice and Education (SPE) Committee Report, which included the refreshed Professional Standards for the teaching profession approved by SPE Committee on May 21, 2026. Additionally, Council received details on the related awareness and engagement plan for the refreshed standards, which will begin in mid-August.
  • Received proposed amendments to Ontario Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs, related to changes to initial teacher education programs associated with Bill 101, Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026, and approved the amendments to the regulation.
  • Received a decision note regarding the Indigenous Languages certification pathway and conceptual framework and approved the following motion:
    • That Council approve engagement with the Ministry of Education to develop proposed regulatory amendments for the Indigenous Languages Certificate pathway to bring back to Council at a future date.
  • Received a decision note about updating the name of the Additional Qualification Supporting Multilingual French Language Learners to comply with the Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum 172 and approved the following motion:
    • That Council request an amendment to Ontario Regulation 176/10 Teachers’ Qualifications to remove the terms: the Actualisation linguistique en français (ALF) and Programme d’appui aux nouveaux arrivants (PANA) and replace with Soutenir les élèves plurilingues apprenants du français, incluant les élèves nouveaux arrivants: approches inclusives, to reflect the new Additional Qualification title outlined in PPM 172.
  • Received an update on the College’s Governance Enhancement Plan and approved the proposed table of contents for the Governance Manual.
  • Received a report from the Audit and Finance Subcommittee (AFS), including quarterly financial results.
  • Received a report from the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee and approved the following motion:
    • That Council appoint Line Lienou, OCT to Council, for a two-year term of office effective July 7, 2026, subject to onboarding requirements, in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and regulations made thereunder, as applicable.
  • Received various correspondence.
