Council Meeting Summary

During its March 20 meeting, College Council:

  • received a quarterly report from the Registrar & CEO.
  • received the Executive Summary of the Focus on Teaching Survey.
  • approved the request that the Minister of Education amend the Teachers’ Qualifications Regulation (TQR) to remove divisional prerequisites for earning the following First Nations, Métis and Inuit-related Additional Qualifications courses:
    1. First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples: Understanding Traditional Teachings, Histories, Current Issues and Cultures;
    2. First Nations, Métis and Inuit Students: Counselling and Support; and,
    3. First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies.
  • approved the request that the Minister of Education amend the TQR to update names of US accrediting bodies.
  • received a report from the Audit and Finance Subcommittee and approved the following motions:
    • That Council approve a contribution to the restricted cash reserve in the amount of $7,775,293, representing the 2024 year-end surplus.
    • That Council accept the December 31, 2024, audited financial statements of the Ontario College of Teachers, as presented.
  • received a report from the Investigation Committee, which included a summary of the disposition of cases concluded by panels of the Investigation Committee between October 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.
  • received various correspondence.
