The application period for the 2022 scholarships closed on August 31, 2022. The application period for the 2023 scholarships will open in early 2023 and the application form will be posted on this page.
Supporting Teaching Excellence
The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program awards scholarships that provide financial support to teacher candidates.
The program identifies exemplary role models and pays direct financial assistance to those with a passion for and dedication to the highest ideals of teaching.
Financial awards are made possible through donations. Awards are paid directly to individuals according to the College’s criteria.

Online Application Process
Applications for the Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program are completed online. Features of the online application include:

College Scholarships
The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program offers four awards:
- Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship for Excellence in Teacher Education
- Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship
- Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship
- Brian P. McGowan Scholarship for Resilience
While candidates can apply for up to two scholarships at the same time, the selection committee can only award one scholarship per candidate.

Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship for Excellence in Teacher Education
The Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship is named in honour of the College’s second registrar. An award of $1,500 is made annually to one student.
Candidates must achieve outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating a high level of preparedness for teacher education.
Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship
The Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate division. An award of $1,500 is made annually to one student.
Applications are assessed on a candidate's ability to demonstrate a high level of preparedness for teacher education through examples of community involvement, background and life experiences.
Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship
The Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Intermediate/Senior division. An award of $1,500 is made annually to one student.
Applications are assessed on a candidate's ability to demonstrate a high level of preparedness for teacher education through examples of community involvement, background and life experiences.
Brian P. McGowan Scholarship For Resilience
The Brian P. McGowan Scholarship is named in honour of the College’s fourth registrar. An award of $1,500 is made annually to one student.
Applications are assessed on a candidate’s demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity, their tenacity and ability to overcome significant barriers to achieve their academic and social goals to pursue a career in the teaching profession.
