College supports government efforts to bolster French-language education

June 18 2021

The Ontario College of Teachers applauds the government’s long-term commitment to strengthening French-language education in Ontario. The comprehensive plan addresses French-language needs at all levels and includes increasing the number of French-language teachers and the flexibility of the Initial Teacher Education FSL programming.

“Education is a collaborative space with each stakeholder playing their own critical roles,” says Paul Boniferro, Transition Supervisory Officer. “Ours is to set the standard for great teaching. We look forward to working closely with the government on this important and supportive initiative.”

“The College supports student safety, wellbeing and interests in many ways, including professional certification and the accreditation of initial and ongoing teacher education programs,” says Dr. Derek Haime, OCT, Registrar and CEO. “The government’s plan will ensure French-language education will continue to meet the needs of Ontario’s student population.”
