Public Attendance at Council

Welcome to the Council meeting of the Ontario College of Teachers (the “College”). The following is a list of guidelines that we hope will make your visit enjoyable and informative.

Registering and Accessing the Agenda and Council Documents

  • you will need to register for the Council meeting electronically to receive the agenda and all documents that are considered public
  • the link to register will be open one month prior to the Council meeting
  • the agenda and public Council package will be available ten days before the Council meeting
  • once you have registered and the documents are available, you will receive an email with a link to the public Council package
  • some Council documents are confidential and will not be included in the public package.
  • the Council package can be viewed on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer during the meeting. Please ensure all devices are switched to silent mode

The College will endeavour to accommodate all persons attending a Council meeting; however, priority is given to individuals who registered prior to the meeting.

Observer Status

  • visitors are welcome, and as such, you are here as observers and unable to participate in the deliberations
  • observers are not permitted to photograph or record the meeting
  • breaks are scheduled throughout meetings
  • water is provided throughout the day on the tables lining the south wall of the Council chambers

Visitors and members of the media are requested to:

  • sign in at the reception desk where you will receive a visitor’s tag
  • wear a visitor’s tag at all times at the College
  • please remain seated in the designated visitors’ gallery of the Council Chamber
  • enter the Council Chamber through the designated door when there are breaks in the proceedings
  • remain on the publically accessible floors
  • exit the Council Chamber upon adjournment of the meeting in advance of the Council debriefing session
  • return visitor badges to the reception desk at the end of the visit

Please respect the decorum of the meeting by:

  • refraining from talking/whispering or any other disruptive or distracting behaviour during the Council meeting
  • turning cell phones and other devices off, or to silent while in the Council Chamber
  • Individuals who do not comply with these requirements may be asked to excuse themselves.

Members of the media requiring further information should contact College Communications at 416-961-8800 ext. 647.

Closed Meetings

The Council may exclude the public from all or part of a meeting if:

  • financial or personal matters may be disclosed
  • a person involved in a court proceeding may be prejudiced
  • the safety of a person may be jeopardized
  • personnel matters or property transactions will be discussed
  • litigation affecting the College will be discussed.

During closed sessions visitors will be requested to leave the Council meeting. You may wait in the reception area until the public session reconvenes.

By Subway:

  • Exit at Bay or Museum subway stations.

Indoor Parking:

  • Indoor parking is available to the west of the College. 
  • The parking entrance is accessible from Bloor St. West. or Sultan St.

Outdoor Municipal Parking:

  • Outdoor parking is available within walking distance to the College.
  • The Ontario College of Teachers is wheelchair accessible.
  • Public washrooms are available on the 15th floor
