College addresses anti-Black racism

June 16 2020

The Ontario College of Teachers will develop a new Additional Qualification (AQ) guideline to address anti-Black racism. The AQ is part of the College's ongoing and long-standing commitment to inclusion and diversity.

All AQ guidelines are developed and revised to meet evolving classroom needs. Recent events in Ontario and around the world have identified the need to develop AQ guidelines specifically to address anti-Black racism. As part of our standard development process, there will be significant consultation with, and outreach to, educators and key community stakeholders.

Earlier this month, the College shared its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, while acknowledging that more work can be done to help address discriminatory behaviour. The development of a new AQ guideline is a part of that.

Members of the College who wish to take part in the development of this AQ can fill out this form or email standardsinfo@oct.ca for more information.

The College aims to have this new AQ guideline for later this year.
