Internationally Educated Teachers

The College welcomes applications from teachers educated outside Canada. Even if you currently live outside the country, you can still apply to the College.

Can I teach in Ontario?

All teachers working in Ontario’s publicly funded elementary and secondary schools must be certified by the College. Before you apply, take our online applicant eligibility assessment to help determine if you meet the requirements. It’s free and takes about 30 minutes.

Specific requirements by teaching category

You can find out more about the specific requirements for your teaching category in the appropriate registration guide:

Sexual Abuse Prevention Program

IET applicants are required to successfully complete the online Sexual Abuse Prevention Program.

OLMA applicants are required to complete the online Sexual Abuse Prevention Program within one year of their certification date.
