To holders of a Temporary Certificate: Convert your Temporary Certificate into a general Certificate of Qualification and Registration

If you have completed your teacher education program, you are encouraged to convert your Temporary Certificate into a general Certificate of Qualification and Registration. To convert your certificate, you need to:
- order your transcript from the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) or contact the institution where you completed your program and ask them to send a transcript to the College. The transcript must show that you have successfully completed your teacher education program and that the degree has been conferred; and
- ensure that your faculty has sent a report confirming the successful completion of your program directly to the College.
We must receive these documents before your certificate expires or it will be cancelled, unless you request an extension (see below for the link to the extension request form).
Should your certificate expire, you will no longer be eligible to teach in the publicly-funded school system in Ontario. You will also be required to re-apply to the College and meet the certification requirements in place at the time of re-application.
Extension: Your Temporary Certificate is due to expire on December 31, 2022. The regulation allows holders of a Temporary Certificate to request an extension from December 31, 2022, to June 30, 2023. If you are granted an extension, you must successfully complete all teacher education program requirements by June 30, 2023 or your certificate will expire.
To extend your Temporary Certificate, you must make a request by submitting the Temporary Certificate Extension Request form by December 31, 2022.
