The College applauds the introduction of Bill 200 by Ontario’s Education Minister Liz Sandals, which amends the Ontario College of Teachers Act. These reforms will further enhance the College’s ability to protect students.

College Revises Safety Advice

College Revises Safety Advice

The College issues professional advisories to help fulfil its mandate to provide advice and guidance to members with respect to their professional practice. Recently, the College updated its professional advisory, Safety in Learning Environments: A Shared Responsibility. These enhancements include guidance on first aid and safety in coaching and volunteer situations.
 
Supporting Students in Math

Supporting Students in Math

Starting in September, Ontario students in Grades 1-8 will receive a minimum of one hour each day of math instruction. The Ministry of Education’s renewed math strategy is designed to help more elementary students achieve excellence in numeracy. The College accredits additional qualification courses in math to help its members expand their knowledge in this subject.

  • There’s an app for that: From nurturing budding artists to mastering basic fractions, Apps Analysis offers a range of online educational tools. Looking for apps in English and French? Read reviews of bilingual apps created for parents and teachers.
  • Make Math Fun: Check out these helpful resources for students and parents courtesy of Ontario’s Ministry of Education.
  • Surfing Safety: Launched by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, House Rules is an interactive tool for families to manage online risks to children.
  • Find a Teacher: The College’s online public registry lets you see that a teacher is in good standing with the College and, therefore, able to teach in publicly funded schools. Visit oct.ca.
