Frequently Asked Questions
Can I pay a reduced membership fee if I only work occasionally?
The costs of recording a teacher on the College register, tracking qualifications and ensuring that work meets the standards of the profession are the same whether a teacher works full-time, part-time or only for a certain period of the school year. For this reason, the College sets one flat fee for the calendar year.
The annual fees collected from College members support all of the activities the College undertakes to fulfill its mandate as a self-regulatory body governing the teaching profession in the public interest. Your membership fee allows you to remain a member in good standing and to teach in Ontario schools. It also enables the College to accredit teacher education programs, conduct disciplinary hearings and communicate with members and the public about teacher professionalism.
The Ontario College of Teachers' membership fee is one of the lowest among Ontario's professional regulatory bodies. College Council sets the fee as low as possible while supporting the costs to certify and regulate the teaching profession.
Membership fees are tax deductible.
