Frequently Asked Questions
Can I ask to have my name removed from the College's public register?
No, unless it is necessary to deal with a legitimate threat to your
safety. The Ontario College of Teachers Act requires that the College
maintain a register of its members and make it accessible to the public. Our
public register lists College members, the qualifications they hold and their
status with the College. The College does not provide the public with any personal
information, including members' birthdates, addresses or places of employment.
It is College policy to include a member's former and current names. Only
in cases where there is documented threat to personal safety would the College
consider removing former names. The intent is not to inconvenience anyone but
rather to acknowledge that many teachers earn degrees or qualifications or
are employed under different names and we need to link these qualifications
and professional history to the person.
