Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the College ask for my Social Insurance Number?

The College uses its own unique identification/registration number. We use the Social Insurance Number (SIN) to match documents bearing the number to a client's file. The College also requires the SIN to make income tax receipts available to members who pay their annual membership fee.

Prior to the College's existence, the Ministry of Education issued teachers' certificates and used the SIN as a teacher's identification number. When the College was given certification responsibility, it needed to link its members with data that the Ministry kept and the only way was to use the SIN.

Your SIN does not appear on the public register and appropriate safeguards are in place to protect it and to prevent access to any of a member's personal information.
