Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the College ask for a Criminal Record Check?
The College licenses teachers and regulates the teaching profession
in the public interest. To protect students and to help ensure that teachers
are worthy of the trust placed in them by parents, students and colleagues,
the College requires all new applicants to provide original signed reports
of criminal record checks with their membership applications and to complete
a declaration about their suitability for registration. The College considers
and assesses each positive criminal record check individually. Possession of
a criminal record does not necessarily preclude you from certification.
