The Ontario College of Teachers certifies hundreds of teachers from other Canadian provinces and territories every year.
If you are a certified teacher living elsewhere in Canada and would like to teach in Ontario at a publicly funded school, the College will issue you a Certificate of Qualification and Registration.
The certificate will have no conditions, except for those permitted under a labour mobility agreement.
The Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009, enabled the College to certify teachers from other parts of Canada under the terms of the revised Agreement on Internal Trade. The agreement, signed by Canadian premiers in 2009, made it easier for certified professionals and skilled workers to move from one province or territory to another.
That means certified teachers are recognized as qualified for teaching by all other provinces and territories without any additional training, experience, examination and assessments. There are just a few exceptions. The exceptions include:
A statement of professional standing is one example of evidence of good character for applicants to the Ontario College of Teachers.
