The Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship is named in honour of the College’s second registrar. An award of $1,500 is made annually to one student.

The scholarship is one of four awards offered by the College.

Teacher candidates in an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program who will graduate in 2024 are eligible to apply.

The candidate must demonstrate both outstanding academic achievement (based on cumulative GPA of completed undergraduate degrees and/or diplomas) and experience that reflects a high level of preparedness for teacher education. The primary selection criteria for this scholarship is your GPA. Background and experience relevant to the teaching profession might include the following:

• teaching of art, music or dance in community centres
• assisting in a classroom
• coaching sports
• teaching literacy, ESL or other second or third languages
• working as a museum instructor or guide working as a camp counsellor or with those having special needs
• volunteer service in a community setting

A scholarship committee selects the recipient.

Teacher candidates in an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program who will graduate in 2024 are eligible to apply.

Applications are assessed on a candidate’s demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity, their tenacity and ability to overcome significant barriers to achieve their academic and social goals to pursue a career in the teaching profession.

A scholarship committee selects the recipient.

Applications are assessed on a candidate’s ability to demonstrate a high level of preparedness for teacher education through examples of community involvement, background and life experiences.

Background and experience relevant to the teaching profession might include the following:

• teaching of art, music or dance in community centres
• assisting in a classroom
• coaching sports
• teaching literacy, ESL or other second or third languages
• working as a museum instructor or guide
• working as a camp counsellor or with those having special needs
• volunteer service in a community setting

The Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship is awarded to an Ontario teacher candidate in the Intermediate/Senior division. An award of $1500 is made annually to one student.

Applications are assessed on a candidate’s ability to demonstrate a high level of preparedness for teacher education through examples of community involvement, background and life experiences.

Your personal information form must be complete before you can do any of the other required tasks.

Try saving your transcript document as a PDF before uploading. The system prefers PDF documents.

Your references must have submitted their recommendations before you can submit your application. Please follow-up with them to ensure that they received the email inviting them to complete the recommendation form.

You will be asked to upload the transcripts for the degrees that you have completed. You must also upload a transcript of your teacher education program that you are currently completing. We will accept one transcript if it reflects both degrees.

Under the “Upload your transcripts” task, upload the transcript twice. Under the first title section, indicate the name of your first degree. In the second title box, indicate the name of your second degree.

In order to ensure success, please make sure to inform your referees that they will be getting an automated email requesting a recommendation. Sometimes these emails may get caught in spam so please ask them to check their spam folder in the event that they don't see the recommendation request. If your referees do not receive an email within 24 hours, please contact us at outreach@oct.ca. Please be sure to include the email address of your referee.
