Council Meeting Summary
During its June 6 meeting, College Council:
- welcomed the Hon. Stephen Lecce, the then Minister of Education, delivered an address where he discussed the latest educational initiatives aimed at better protecting students across the province. Minister Lecce thanked the College for its dedication to students. He highlighted the success of the Sexual Abuse Prevention Program, with 95 per cent of teachers having completed it and commended the College for its development of a new Additional Qualification on Holocaust Education and Countering Antisemitism for teachers. He emphasized how this initiative will help equip educators to effectively address and prevent incidents of racism and discrimination in the classroom.

- received a protocol outlining the steps for statutory and regulatory amendments.
- approved the request from the Deputy Minister of Education to amend Regulation 176/10, Teachers’ Qualifications and Regulation 347/02, Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs to change “education de l’enfance en difficulté” to "éducation spécialisée".
- approved the retroactive name change from éducation de l’enfance en difficulté to éducation spécialisée on the certificates of all members who have previously been granted the qualification, which will come into effect when the regulation change occurs.
- received various correspondence.
- received a report from the Audit and Finance Subcommittee.
- received a quarterly financial report for the period ending March 31, 2024.
- received a report of the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee and passed the following motions:
- That Council recommend that the Lieutenant Governor in Council reappoint Diana Miles and Elaine Lajeunesse to Council for a three-year term commencing on January 1, 2025, in accordance with the provisions of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and regulations made thereunder, as applicable.
- That Council appoint Danielle Morin to the Investigation Committee and Cathy McCann Kyte, OCT to the Accreditation Committee for a 2-year term commencing immediately.
