Mary Ellen Gucciardi is a secondary school teacher at the School Within a College dual credit program offered by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board at Humber College.
A champion of marginalized students, Mary Ellen co-designed and delivered professional development about Indigenous perspectives for educators in collaboration with three school boards. She designed Indigenous acknowledgement posters for all Dufferin-Peel facilities, co-facilitated Legacy of Hope professional development for teachers with a focus on Canada’s residential school crisis, and co-organized and implemented various First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultural presentations for students and teachers.
Mary Ellen has served as an English, English as a Second Language, and alternative education teacher, a guidance counsellor and an academic consultant since starting with the board in 1995. In addition, Gucciardi served as project lead for curriculum resource development writing projects, a documentary producer, led experiential learning excursions to the Arctic, and a Summer Institute facilitator.
Certified to teach in Ontario in 1996, Mary Ellen Gucciardi has a BA and a MSc in Education.
She was appointed to Council in September 2018 to fill a vacancy in the English-Language Roman Catholic Board – Secondary category.
