We are accountable to you, the public.
The College was established in 1997 to allow Ontario teachers to regulate and govern their own profession in the public interest. The College has a duty to serve you in three primary areas: teacher licensing, program accreditation and member discipline.
Sign up for The Public Interest, a College e-newsletter that brings you inside the teaching profession’s regulatory body. We give you the latest news about teacher licensing, education and matters of significance to the profession and to the people it serves – you and the province’s students. It’s free. Subscribe now or check out previous issues in our archives.
A teacher must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers to teach in Ontario’s publicly funded schools. College members pay an annual fee to maintain their membership and certification, which is their licence to teach in Ontario. Get informed about how teachers are certified.
