We are accountable to you, the public.
The College was established in 1997 to allow Ontario teachers to regulate and govern their own profession in the public interest. The College has a duty to serve you in four primary areas: teacher licensing, the establishment and enforcement of ethical standards and standards of practice for the teaching profession, program accreditation and member discipline.
A teacher must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers to teach in Ontario’s publicly funded schools. College members pay an annual fee to maintain their membership and certification, which is their licence to teach in Ontario. Get informed about how teachers are certified.
Sign up for The Standard, a College e-newsletter that brings you inside the teaching profession’s regulatory body. We give you the latest news about teacher licensing, education and matters of significance to the profession and to the people it serves – you and the province’s students. It’s free.
