How Complaints are Resolved

Under authority of the Ontario College of Teachers Act and regulations under the Act, the College investigates and resolves complaints regarding professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity of College members.

Several stages govern the resolution of a complaint: intake, investigation, hearing and/or complaints resolution.

The College receives expressions of concern from four sources: the public, members of the College, the Minister of Education and the College Registrar acting on behalf of the public interest. See Steps to Take: If You Have a Concern About a Member for more information.

College members, who face allegations, have the right to due process and a fair and impartial hearing. To learn more, see Steps to Take: If a Complaint is Filed Against You.

To protect complainants and College members and to avoid jeopardizing due process, the College does not comment on complaints or investigations that have not been referred for a public hearing.
