Alexander (Sandy) Bass

(Northeast Region – Part-Time/Full-Time) currently works as an occasional teacher with the Rainbow DSB.

During his 26 years at secondary schools in the Rainbow DSB, Bass has taught a variety of subjects including electricity, electronics, computer technology, mathematics and science. He also taught Special Education and was a program leader and assistant department head.

He was actively involved in Rainbow District 3 OSSTF activities throughout his career and presently serves on the executive of its occasional teacher bargaining unit.

Bass earned a BA from Laurentian University and a BEd from Queen’s University. His College registration number is 119591.

Carlo Cappello

(Northwest Region – Full-Time) began his career as an occasional teacher with the Lakehead Roman Catholic DSB in 1997.

Since 1998 he has taught English, law and history, as well as literacy, credit recovery and Special Education at St. Patrick High School in the Thunder Bay Catholic DSB.

Cappello has been involved in curriculum implementation and EQAO literacy testing in his school. He also volunteers as coach of the boys’ soccer teams at St. Patrick.

He has served in various roles on committees of the OECTA Thunder Bay local and provincial units.

Irene Dembek

(Northeast Region – Full-Time) is an elementary teacher in the Sudbury Catholic DSB.

Her teaching assignments include English and French Immersion. Her experience includes being the only full-time teacher for Native students at a Killarney school. As well as mentoring new teachers, she has developed, implemented and facilitated workshops on OECTA’s anti-bullying initiative.

As a member of OECTA, she has served on its local executive committee as second vice-president and was a bargaining team member.

She earned her BA from Laurentian University and her BEd from Lakehead University. Her College registration number is 403322.

Gale Dores

(Southeast Region – Part-Time/Full-Time) has taught for 14 years with the Upper Canada DSB. Her experience includes teaching at the elementary, secondary and college levels.

Since 2000 she has taught mathematics and science at the T.R. Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education in Cornwall.

Dores has written mathematics, geography and biology curriculum that has been used in schools across her board. She worked with math teachers from around the province creating the curriculum document Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life (MEL4E).

She has been involved locally and provincially in a variety of OSSTF activities, including presenting at anti-bullying workshops throughout Ontario.

Dores has an Honours BSc from Queen’s University and earned her BEd from the University of Ottawa. Her College registration number is 285271.

Marc Dubois

(French-Language Roman Catholic Board Secondary) has taught high school for the Conseil scolaire de district des écoles catholiques du Sud-Ouest since 1990.

He has taught mathematics to various grades as well as computer science, communications technology, media arts and French. He has also been a site manager and computer science resource teacher and served as a computer network moderator and facilitator for OTF’s project known as Creating a Culture of Change.

He has held a number of elected positions in his AEFO local unit, including local officer, local president and bargaining advisory committee chair.

Martha Dutrizac

(Supervisory Officer) has taught kindergarten to Grade 8 and worked as a Special Education resource teacher, vice-principal, principal and staff development officer in the London Catholic DSB. She was a superintendent of education in the Huron-Perth Catholic DSB and became its director of education in 2009.

She has extensive PD facilitation and training involvement, including with the School Effectiveness Framework and early reading and early numeracy strategy groups. She has worked with the OCSOA and the Minister’s Curriculum Council. She piloted the provincial CPCO mentoring program and has taught the SOQP and PQP.

Dutrizac has a BA and an MEd from the University of Western Ontario. Her College registration number is 110285.

Dean Favero

(French-Language Roman Catholic Board Elementary) has taught with the Conseil des écoles catholiques de langue française du Centre-Est since beginning his career in 1990.

He has taught students from kindergarten to Grade 8. His assignments have included teaching elementary mainstream, Section 27 classes, students with autism and students with learning exceptionalities.

This is Favero’s second term on Council, where he chairs the Registration Appeals Committee, serves as vice-chair of the Editorial Board and sits on the Executive and Discipline Committees.

As a member of the AEFO, Favero has served on its local and provincial executive committees.

He earned his BA from the University of Western Ontario and his BEd from the University of Ottawa. His College registration number is 174965.

Nick Forte

(English-Language Roman Catholic Board Secondary) has taught high school science and Grades 7 and 8 with the London Catholic DSB since beginning his career in 1985. He has taught senior biology, Grades 9 and 10 science and college science co-op at John Paul II Catholic SS since 1993.

Forte has written award-winning articles and presented workshops on student achievement and teaching science.

This is his second term on Council, where he currently serves as chair of the Standards of Practice and Education Committee and is a member of the Executive and Investigation Committees. He is also a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on a Strategy to Enhance the Quality of College Relationships with College Members and College Partners.

He has served on the London district OECTA unit as chair of its economic advisory committee and first vice-president.

Forte earned his BA, BEd and MEd from the University of Western Ontario. His College registration number is 175283.

Brent Hamelin

(Southcentral Region – Full-Time) began his career in 1981 at St. Theresa’s SS in Midland in the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic DSB.

He has taught all three science disciplines: biology, chemistry and physics. Since 2004 he has taught guidance and career education.

This is Hamelin’s second term on Council, where he currently serves as the vice-chair of the Discipline Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee.

He has served on many OECTA committees, both locally and provincially. From 1995 to 2004 he was on full release to work for the Simcoe Muskoka OECTA unit, first as release officer and then as president.

Hamelin has a BSc from the University of Guelph and a BEd from the University of Toronto. His College registration number is 172416.

Annilee Jarvis

(English-Language Public Board Elementary) has been re-elected to Council, where she currently serves as vice-chair of Council, vice-chair of the Executive Committee and chair of the Editorial Board. She also sits on the Discipline Committee and on Council’s Steering Committee.

Jarvis, a Special Education resource teacher in the York Region DSB, has worked as a Special Education classroom teacher, Special Education resource teacher and administrative support teacher for Grades 3 to 8 students since 1995.

Jarvis has held numerous positions in the ETFO York Region local. She served as a steward for seven years. She chaired the steward and professional development committees and was a member of the collective bargaining and negotiating table teams. She continues as a member of the human rights committee.

Jarvis has an Honours BA from McMaster University and a BEd from the University of Toronto. Her professional development activities have focused on Special Education, math, literacy and restorative approaches. Her College registration number is 169181.

Peter Joong

(Faculty of Education) has been assistant professor at Nipissing University’s faculty of education for seven years.

He received the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 1998 and the Nipissing University Chancellor’s Award in Research in 2005.

Joong has written numerous education and mathematics textbooks and teacher resource books and has conducted workshops in Ontario, China, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Jordan, England, Mongolia, Jamaica and the United Arab Emirates.

This is Joong’s second term on Council, where he currently serves on the Standards of Practice and Education Committee and the Accreditation Committee

His degrees include a BSc from Loyola College of Montréal, an MSc from McMaster University, a Diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies, and an MEd and a Doctor of Education from the University of Toronto. His College registration number is 217583.

Clint Lovell

(English-Language Public Board Secondary) began his career in 1989 teaching English and history at École secondaire Base Borden CI for the Canadian Forces Base Borden Board of Education. Since 1991 he has taught history, politics, philosophy and English at Eastview SS in the Simcoe County DSB.

He is a graduate of the Yad Vashem International School for Holocaust Studies. He lectured in Jerusalem and served as a provincial delegate to the 2005 March of the Living to the Warsaw Ghetto, Auschwitz and Majdanek. He was part of the first Juno Beach Association teacher tour.

Lovell won a Simcoe County DSB Excellence in Education award and was nominated for a Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History.

He has been involved in the OSSTF locally and provincially and served as chief negotiator for his district.

Darlene Mead

(Northwest Region – Part-Time/Full-Time) is a Special Education resource teacher with the Algoma DSB.

She has taught at the Primary, Junior and Intermediate levels and has been a classroom teacher, Core French teacher and teacher-librarian in both English and French Immersion schools in the Metropolitan Toronto Separate School Board and the Algoma DSB.

She has worked locally and provincially for the ETFO in a variety of roles and has been a strong advocate for teachers.

Mead earned her BA from the University of Toronto and completed her professional education program at Toronto Teachers’ College. Her College registration number is 148030.

Liz Papadopoulos

(Central Region – Full-Time) is currently a Grade 8 and Special Education teacher with the Toronto DSB.

She began teaching in 1991 and has taught students from kindergarten through Grade 8. She holds specialist qualifications in English as a Second Language and in Physical and Health Education.

Papadopoulos returns to the College after a three-year hiatus. With extensive federation involvement at the local, provincial and national levels, she has spent a total of seven years in full-time release positions. She was vice-president of the ETFO Toronto local for several years.

She holds a BA from York University and an MSc in Education from Niagara University. Her College registration number is 187328.

Ruth Ann Penny

(Private School) is Director of Admissions at Branksome Hall, an independent girls’ school in Toronto.

She has taught in both public and private schools across the province. She began as a kindergarten teacher, then went on to teach French and middle school gifted students in English-language schools, and languages and social sciences in French Immersion schools. She has served as an elementary vice-principal, principal and consultant, a collective bargaining representative for the FWTAO, a Ministry of Education trainer and a system-wide PD leader in the area of leadership development.

This is Penny’s second term on Council, where she currently serves as a member of the Standards of Practice and Education Committee and is vice-chair of the Accreditation Committee.

Penny has also served as Provincial PD Co-ordinator for the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario. She has written and presented nationally and internationally on issues related to communications, marketing and internationalism in education.

She has a BA from McMaster University, a BEd from Laurentian University and an MA from the University of Toronto. Her College registration number is 150717.

Terry Price

(Central Region – Part-Time/Full-Time) is an occasional teacher with the York Region DSB.

From 1975 to 2005 he taught science, served as a department head in North York and York region and worked with Department of National Defence Schools in Germany. He has been an AQ honour specialist physics instructor at OISE/UT and has held executive positions with the OSSTF District 16, most recently as occasional teacher branch president.

He is a life member and former director of the board of the STAO, a past president of the OAPT and a 1994 winner of the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in Science, Technology and Mathematics.

Price has a BSc and an MSc from York University and a BEd from the University of Toronto. His College registration number is 142900.

Tanya Roberts

(Southeast Region – Full-Time) is a Grade 8 teacher with the Ottawa-Carleton DSB.

Since beginning her career in 1996, she has taught Grade 8 English, Intermediate visual arts, mathematics and social studies. She has also taught Special Education and computers to students from Grades 4 to 8.

She has AQs in Special Education and Computers in the Classroom.

This is Roberts’s second term on Council, where she currently chairs the Election Committee and is a member of the Fitness to Practise and Accreditation Appeal committees and the Ad Hoc Committee Reviewing the Full-Time Chair Position.

Her involvement with the ETFO includes serving on its provincial awards committee and working as a web site facilitator for its leadership institute, Reflections on Practice.

Roberts earned her BA and her BEd from the University of Ottawa. Her College registration number is 202504.

Robert Ryan

(Southwest Region – Full-Time) teaches technical studies and Special Education at Vincent Massey SS for the Greater Essex County DSB.

Since 2005 he has been part of Vincent Massey’s Skills to Enhance Personal Success (STEPS) program. He teaches personal health and fitness, social skills development, personal life skills, healthy living, mathematics and finance.

From 1999 to 2005 Ryan taught modified woodworking, painting and decorating programs at Western SS.

He is a member of his board’s PD committee and his school’s improvement-plan steering committee. He has held several positions with his OSSTF local, including vice-president, chair of the PD committee and secretary to the teachers’ bargaining unit.

Ryan has a Diploma in Education from Queen’s University. His College registration number is 432535.

Mara Torcaso

(English-Language Roman Catholic Board Elementary) is in her 20th year of teaching with the Ottawa Catholic DSB.

She presently teaches Grade 5 at St. Michael (Corkery) Elementary School in Carp. She has taught Grades 1 through 5 and has coached cross-country running and track and field for many years.

She has served as an associate teacher for over 10 years and been involved in marking EQAO reading assessments and curriculum writing for her board.

Her local and provincial OECTA involvement has given her valuable committee experience.

She has a BA and an MA from Carleton University and a BEd from the University of Ottawa. Her College registration number is 254808.

Jacques Tremblay

(French-Language Public Board Elementary and Secondary) teaches secondary students for the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario.

During his 16-year career, he has taught secondary level French, computer studies and technology, as well as French Immersion and Core French at both the secondary and elementary levels.

He has been involved in writing and implementing curriculum and course profiles and in teacher leadership development activities. He is also a writer and has published fiction and non-fiction books related to self-growth and education.

This is Tremblay’s second term on Council, where he chairs the Discipline Committee and is a member of the Executive, Fitness to Practise and Nomination committees and the Ad Hoc Committee on a Strategy to Enhance the Quality of College Relationships with College Members and College Partners.

Tremblay has been involved in the AEFO as a bargaining team member, school delegate and representative for the Kingston region.

He has a BA from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and an MA from Queen’s University. His College registration number is 218079.

Henry Tyndorf

(Principal/Vice-Principal) has an Honours BSc in geological engineering and began his career as a prospector in New Brunswick and Ontario. After earning an MBA he spent 25 years in the personal computer industry.

In 1992 he completed his BEd and began teaching business and computer science, moving on to become a department head of information services and finally taking his first of two positions as a secondary school vice-principal before becoming a principal. His degrees are all from the University of Toronto.

He has specialist qualifications in Business Studies and Religious Education and has completed the PQP and the SOQP.

He has also served as a member of the finance committee of the CPCO. In addition to his professional experience, he has coached hockey and soccer and been a scout leader, sings lead in the MegaCity Barbershop Chorus, enjoys painting with watercolours and is an officer in a community charity organization and an active member of his church.

This is Tyndorf’s second term on Council, where he currently serves as vice-chair of the Investigation Committee and a member of the Editorial Board. His College registration number is 148791.

Hanno Weinberger

(Southcentral Region – Part-Time/Full-Time) has been re-elected to Council, where he currently serves on the Nomination and Discipline committees, is vice-chair of the Fitness to Practise Committee, chairs Council’s Ad Hoc Committee on a Strategy to Enhance the Quality of College Relationships with College Members and College Partners, and is a member of the Ad Hoc Committee Reviewing the Full-Time Chair Position.

Weinberger has taught students from kindergarten to Grade 6 in the Halton DSB for over 32 years. His experience also includes Special Education and the English half of French Immersion.

He has been involved in planning committees charged with mentoring and supporting teachers new to the profession.

He was a member of his local ETFO executive from 1998 to 2006 and a member of the provincial ETFO disabilities issues committee.

He earned his BA and BSW from McMaster University and his BEd from Hamilton Teachers’ College. His College registration number is 244106.

Sharon Young Kipp

(Southwest Region – Part-Time/Full-Time) has been re-elected to Council where she currently serves on the Investigation Committee and chairs the Quality Assurance Committee.

Young Kipp has taught for the Thames Valley DSB since 1975 and has been a department head of physical and health education, as well as a teacher, coach, convenor and co-ordinator of physical and health education, athletics and dance.

She has served on the executive committee of the OSSTF and was the branch president for London Central SS from 1997 to 2009.

She earned her BA and her BEd from the University of Western Ontario. Her College registration number is 224507.
